Lets all help promote this EXPO and WEBSITE by putting the stickers on our cars and anywhere else that will get an EX-SHARPs attention, coz there’d be heaps out there not into computers, or don’t yet know of this site. Grab a t-shirt and wear it proudly in public. We could help make this not only a great EXPO but a massive reunion. Looking forward to meeting you all, and hopefully catching up with past friends.
(Bill Sharp from Reservoir- where are you?)

Chane was from La Femme,he was a punk not a sharpie. But when desperation sets in in your 50′s, I spose you will say anything to be recognised, lol, how funny and so sad….
Comment by Trisha — April 10, 2010 @ 12:13 pm
I always wondered what happened to Chane Bowie? Looks like he ended up becoming a Punk
Comment by Chelsea Kids — April 12, 2010 @ 10:01 pm
Chane Chane fronted one of Melbournes best ever bands “LA FEMME” (late 70′s early 80′s)….The best live act you will ever see….Chane was also the type of fella who would always have the time for a chat with his bands followers..The one bad thing about him he barracks for COLLINGWOOD..(no ones perfect).

to sad sad trisha (patricia)or whatever your real name is, did you get left behind in the carpark, sad what some old groopies will say to be noticed, at 14 shaved head, 16 became first Melb Sharp to have a Bowie cut,
by then been a Wests Rd Sharp- Ascot Vale, Melbourne Sharp, Anderson Rd Sharp- Falkner,A.N.A’s- Glenroy & in Oak Park Boot Boys, at 18 became Punk joined La Femme, I think from here you pick up my story, or was it 1977 before you were allowed out past 9pm? sad sad trish, you know nothing about me,I’m Chane Chane… who the hell are you ? ? ? ps, only narcissist use (lol)

sorry, how rude of me,…”Chelsea Kids”,yes I’m still around, Chane Bowie, Chane Chane, same person just not so agro, use words & music to get my point accross now. Were you a Franger Boy or with the later Bayside Boys (funny how we all called ourselves the BOY’s, it’s so aussie not to be presumptuous, “Men”, Ha and you would have been hunted men)or are you actualy from Chelsea ?
…and to “Phill”,thank’s for nice words about La Femme, it ment a lot to me, I hated stand off stars & people in profile letting their ego rule their heads,Anyhow my penis ruled my dicisions throughout the 70′s… some punks tried to change things, others became things. (my rule is)
“nobody is better than anyone else because of what they do!”… or what team they support etc..ha ha etc..
Hope you guys buy the Suburban Sharp LP CD in July, I think it’s the best thing I’ve done. cheers, Chane Chane

Hi Chane, I was being facetious after seeing “Tricia’s” comment so signed it off with La Femme’s debut single “Chelsea Kids” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeY7sECD_oM on how silly her comment was, although I knew you hung around Chelsea at one time. Think the comment would have gone over her head anyway. Should send her the 2006 Sharps’n'Skins booklet if she still has any doubts. I remember the first time we saw La Femme back in 1978 at a church hall in Murrumbeena. We were growing our hair out by then getting into the Punk/New Wave scene and an ex Sharpie mate Eric Simpson told us about a new band with Chane Bowie being the lead singer. You had dropped the Bowie tag by then. Westside Sharps were coming into the fore so we turned up whenever you guys played in Melb. I was at the Y&J reunion last July with you and Sam as well. We are doing it again on the Expo weekend with Pete & Daniella coming down from Qld again and kicking off on the Friday night. See http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=122369374455381&ref=mf for updated plans. Catch you and the Suburban Sharps in July. Can’t wait!

Comment by Prowsey — May 31, 2010 @ 5:44 pm
Hi Prowsey, we’ve now got all the info in City Sharps but 3 things, 1/ it was a Phill Noice Special called the shark, so I painted a spitfire face on it, don’t have it anymore. 2/ it’s Chane, both times. & 3/ never plead guilty, it makes idiots think their right. Wait till you hear this guitarist, see you at Expo. R&R Chane

We must all help spread the word about the EXPO so all the ex-SHARPS without computers find out about it, and promote the website to those who haven’t yet found it. SAM has put a lot into creating this EXPO for ‘US’ and we can thank him by making it a ripping success, and get as many people thru the doors as possible. So dont wait until the expo to buy your t-shirts, stickers, etc…. buy them online now to get the message out there about this upcoming fantastic celebration of the SHARPIE ERA. Hope to meet you all there, Pete.

Been reading all your comments and it seems that a lot of you guys were from the 1970′s sharps . Well I am nearly 60 now and we were sharps from approx 1966 yes thats right that early . I belonged to the Preston Sharps . Typical clothing that a sharp from that era wore . Crestknit top ( like a modern polo but only one colour . Conti Cardigan ( his business was in High Street Thornbury ) and Flag trousers These were short waisted with flap pockets that were straight cut and of course Chisel toe shoes from Either Acropolis or Cosmano Shoes that were in Collingwood .Hair was always short and either parted to one side or crew cut . A very clean look .
This is all factual and any old sharp from those days will verify this . I hope that you find this of some interest from one of the most interesting times of Melbourne history .I am proud that I was part of it .

Johnny, if you can get hold of the 2004 book “Top Fellas” by Tadhg Taylor, the first section covers the “1964 to 1970″ period with some great stories and photos of the birth of the sharpie cult. A long time before it became mainsteam in the mid 1970′s. The book has been reprinted and can be ordred at:

Syndal Sharps 1976 I remember them all so well. I was the little Greek kid that lived in a milk bar and we had the only space invader machine in the area. Our shop was place to hang out in. Good times! Great website.

Hey Guys,
Good to see that you guys are continuing to stay in touch. Tadhg is a good mate of mine (Im mentioned a few times in his book as my uncle was a mod then sharpie in collingwood in the 60s plus if my memory isnt as dodgy as I think it is I was the idiot who came up with the idea of doing a book on sharps although if it had been left to me it never would’ve happened lol) One thing that defines a healthy society is it’s ability to create unique subcultures and Sharps/64 Rockers is right up there with the best of em.
