Hi Kath, I lived over the other side of the Koonung Creek Box Hill side so gravitated mostly to BoxHill in those crazy days, used to ride horses around donnie prior to shopping town when whites corner was there. Donny Inn was a mad house, i witnessed a bloke rip out the mens urinal in the bath room one night
Great years of fun and bonding with so many mates, no knives, no guns, no hard drugs heaps of trouble and getting locked up but again…..I would never change a thing….I had the time of my life!

Hi Greg and Noel. I was a Donny Sharp. Greg,I remember your gig with Arctic Myth at the Athenaeum Hall on Doncaster Road. It’s a shame that building is no longer there. So much is gone. But I still remember a lot and have diaries from that time. I especially remember that night at the Athenaeum because I sewed ‘Donny Sharps’ in silver sequins onto a t-shirt to wear. What a time! I also remember the chairs flying in the lounge at the Donny Inn. Toward the end of the 70s I became best friends with the daughter of the publican, but by then we were all growing our hair longer and growing up and moving on. I want to write more about these times and particularly about Doncaster, where I grew up, which had the highest youth population at that time. I advocated for a youth space in Doncaster in 1975 (had a petition which I got signatures for and took to Council) after the ‘Cool Store’coffee shop on Doncaster Road closed. Did you go to any of the Doncaster High School dances? I went to MLC, but connected with some skins and sharpies who hung out at my local shops and had a local social life as a Sharpie. I went to Canopus, the Burvale… memories of some mean, heavy bouncers… I loved to dance. I loved the Sharpie style. I loved the energy. I think all of us were going through something intense either in our families or with our culture at that time to want to be a part of something that stood for strength and a sense of power we had no other way of finding. We were in the middle of a social revolution. Our families were falling apart. Women were stepping out of the kitchen. An affluent but soulless society. The music was our voice and our driving force. I could go on and on… Would like to hear more about your experiences.

Hi… My mum( lesley pidoto) spoke of these days as a time in her life Where she had a huge amount memories and great times. Sadly my mum passed away 14/122/2011. Hopefully people who knew her will remember the good times.
